About Debbie Emslie
I have a diploma in Art and Creativity (honours) from the Learning Connexion in Wellington. Most of my development as a painter, however, has been through a series of workshops I have done with some of Australia’s top artists.
I have painted in watercolour for over twenty years, and am essentialy a landscape painter. I prefer to work en plein air where I try to capture the essence of a scene. There is nothing like standing with my easel outdoors capturing the fall of light on a land or seascape.
In the past few years I have also taken up pastel painting. This medium is more forgiving than watercolour and I love the rich array of colours and freedom I have working dark over light or light over dark. Pastels have a real vibrancy but also a similar effect to watercolour painting.
I have been a member of the Tauranga Art Society for many years and have been involved with and sold my work through their exhibitions. My husband and I now live in Tairua where I am a member of the local art group and I look forward to my continuing development as an artist within this community.
